^^ I don’t know about “always,” lol, but certainly in the majority of our lives if not the entirety. The reality is that there are charitable organizations which do the vast majority of the assistance in areas wrecked by nature, as is the case with Japan. But who is helping the good people being massacred in Libya? Now I may say who is helping the good people in Darfur, N Korea, etc., but once crisis at a time is essentially your point. The most pressing crisis for which we can lend our assistance, militarily, is Libya. Mind you, they are only asking for/accepting air support. All ground actions are the rebels.
Considering that France, of all people, are gung ho and willing should say something. I don’t think it’s beyond us to lend a couple AWACS, an air craft carrier and a few jets to that area… especially when giving assistance even has UN support for doing so. And if the great cowardice and inactive body of purposelessness known as the UN actually can make a stand, I think we can at least do our fair share. I’m just saying.
^ that would be more viable if we weren’t spending tax funds on helping other countries drill for oil using “safe technology” which is condemned here by the same people for not being safe and thus refusing to allow drilling. BRILLIANT! So now we really are outsourcing our tax dollars.
This cartoon has it right. The world has not spent nearly enough time, attention and money on that god-forsaken sandbox covered oil-field we call the middle-east. It’s not as if they’ve been acting like a civilized, educated society we like or anything. Burn in hell Japan, you and your ability to move beyond the 1500’s; We’d rather go blow another billion in the middle-east.
Ladette: In time, one’s definition of “civilized” has to upgrade a bit. My grandparents had a VCR before my parents did, but they used that VCR long after I bought a DVD player so they’ve lost their “up to par with technology” status.
In that regard, even if the middle east came up with the first draft of what we based civilization on, they’re still banging rocks to make fire compared to Japan.
I just have to wonder what will happen if all of the dictators are removed from power. It’s very naive to think they will end up being a democracy like the US. More likely they will end up being a theocracy like Iran. What really amazes me the most is how the evangelicals in this country are constantly trying to turn our country into a theocracy. The forefathers didn’t want a theocracy. They came from one in England.

His next line should be: “Oh, you’ve got oil, huh. Ok, we’ll be right there.”
