Upside down, on the old Libyan flag’s colours and you have angry faces. Or is it evil? But Iºm not so sure about his message. This has been a secular revolt.
I’m familiar with António, since the late ’80s in fact, one of the cartoonists that made me more interested in editorial cartoons in Portugal and led me to read more about Portuguese politics.
it is masquerading as a “secular revolt”…
editorial excerpt from www.jpost.com/ce March magazine=
“Even Turkey, with its 80-year-old history of civic society with a strong focus on secular values safeguarded by its military, constitution and long history of democratic practices, seems headed in a decidedly Islamist direction under the Justice and Development Party, or AKP.
Radical Islam is the zeitgeist of the region……” (written 2/3/11)
“zeitgeist” means “spirit of the time” in moral and intellectual trend, I checked the dictionary to be sure.
The editorial covers Iraq, Turkey, Gaza, & Lebanon.
It points to the gradual insinuation of the Muslim Brothers into Egypt’s culture….the professional unions, Sharia Law imposed in the courts to prosecute “apostate” secular writers, professors, artists and journalists…for “religious crimes such as blasphemy”….and Islamists have attacked and killed Christian Copts who have always been peaceful neighbors in Egyptian towns.
this is not a Freedom and Liberty revolution, unless the USA uses the annual $ aid in the Israel peace deal, to leverage true democratic reforms, as Natan Sharansky has said and is quoted in this magazine, in Israel since his freedom from communism Feb. 1986.
Ditto in Morocco, Tunisia and Libyan “revolutions”.
p.s. I don’t understand the “art”…
what do multiple images of Libya’s Dictator represent? the clergy? I doubt it. Evil Spirits? and why are they “raining down”?

^The US can’t impose anything there that could be lasting. Democracy can’t come from outside.
