After the Ayatolla Khomeini took the reins of power away from the hated Shah, he personally witnessed the many executions, which took place on the roof of the courthouse. The guilty sentences were being handed down swiftly, and no appeals were allowed. Most sentences were carried out immediately. After some time, a very brave (foolish?) aide commented to the supreme Ayatolla that perhaps some of these men were truly innocent, that perhaps the courts should slow down. The big K merely replied “Then they are martyrs for the revolution, and will be rewarded by Allah” How was this person better than the Shah?
