A better way to thank a vet is to fully fund medical and rehabilitation treatment, job training, housing, and counseling (vet and family) to make sure they are not left out of society when they leave service, voluntarily or otherwise.
The VA still has problems. I am a Korean vet but on my last yearly check up I received the test results but did not get to see a doctor for evaluation and recommendations. I do have problems but went to civilian doctors and things are better.
We especially need to remember to thank Bush Jr. for invading Iraq, thus creating so many more injured and disabled vets, and for the advances in prosthetic devices, as Varvel shows in his cartoon.
.
Not to mention all the dead — American soldiers, contractors, allies, Iraqis, Kurds,
and
ISIS
and
the ongoing stability of the region.
.
And thanks to #TraitorTrump for continuing Bush Jr.’s legacy.
Another way to thank our veterans is to bring them home. We, and their families, need them here, not scattered around the world poking our noses in everyone else’s business, for whatever is the foreign policy flavor of the month.
If there is such trouble that it must be tended to, Countries around the World will recognize it and we’ll all sent a coalition and take care of it en masse. No more unilateral military involvement !
Let’s honor our veterans. Their families would like to honor them personally.
Some of the money needed for the veterans in rehabilitation and housing was in the Pentagon funds that the Supreme Court allowed the Weasel to steal for THE WALL.
A hand-shake isn’t exactly lip service, but it’s about the same. Let’s see what you have to say about vets when it’s time to fund the VA (or roll veteran medical care into the mainstream, maybe, though maybe they’d be better off with well funded care that’s targeted to vets)
And how about thinking about whether we ought to be putting them in harm’s way to protect the interests of big oil and the companies who sell the military equipment and services. I always thought they (and even more, the national guard) should be funded and used to protect the interests of the whole nation.

Nice to see someone realizes Veterans Day is for we survivors, even if many are missing a few parts.

I wonder if Mr Varvel appreciates the Trump method of vet fund raising in Iowa.

The news said that many veterans don’t want to be thanked. I don’t care one way or the other myself. But I do like the freebies.
