I was assigned a research project as a freshman in college and it was on Chile and Pinochet. Horrible man.

Of course Pinochet was horrible, he was a right wing extremist, Trump would love him.

The dictatorship was established after the democratically-elected socialist government of Salvador Allende was overthrown in a coup d’état on 11 September 1973. During this time, the country was ruled by a military junta headed by General Augusto Pinochet.

The new government rounded up thousands of people and held them in the national stadium, where many were killed. This was followed by brutal repression during Pinochet’s rule, during which approximately 3,000 people were killed, while more than 1,000 are still missing.

United States president Richard Nixon feared that Chile could become “another Cuba” and the US cut off most of its foreign aid to Chile. … On 15 September 1970; before Allende took office, Richard Nixon gave the order to overthrow Allende.

    Republicans always back vicious murderers.
