Charlie Brown and Lucy stand by the baseball bench. Lucy says, "So you're kicking me off the team, eh, manager?"<BR><BR> Lucy continues, "What am I going to do with this glove? My dad gave it to me years ago when he thought he would never have a son . ."<BR><BR> Lucy frowns and says, "If I sell it, his heart will be broken . . You've destroyed a father's dream, Charlie Brown . . . A man can take a lot, but when you destroy his dream, you destroy everything."<BR><BR> Lucy holds the glove out and walks away. She says, "Maybe I'll just go home, and throw my glove into the trash-masher . . . How symbolic!" Charlie Brown frowns and sighs.<BR><BR>

Gosh, how much older than Linus IS Lucy? I mean, what she refers to in Panel 2, that her dad gave it to her, when he was convinced he would never get a son, is what I’m getting at. Unless their parents had waited awhile to have kids, and then when parenthood finally was on the way, Dad thought he was getting a son, but how wrong he was, but decided to get a baseball glove for his daughter, anyway(which Lucy apparently kept, even after Linus was born.)
