Ha. Something similar happened to me 1972-ish. Was on a date and laid my wallet on the table after paying the bill. My date spotted the ‘ring’ that existed in so many leather wallets belonging to optimistic young men in those days and asked what I thought I was going to do with that… I explained that I wouldn’t be doing anything with that, as it has been in my wallet since I was 15 (4 years at that point), was well past it’s expiration date, and was still there because the blind optimism of younger me amused me to no end.It turned out she had her own supply.
In 1970, I would have been mortified to have seen something like that in my boyfriend’s wallet. Back then, no one wanted to think someone you dated would have planned for a possibility of sex with you. It would have been an excellent idea to be prepared but I wouldn’t have seen it that way.
