I like Deering’s toon here. All the racist taunts and tweets, damaging and hurtful as they are, successfully deflect our attention away from the steady erosion of our country’s being, the openly treasonous activity of Republican operatives, and the continuing consolidation of the nation’s wealth (and power) into the hands of the few.
“To the editors, all local papers: It is no longer political. It is a matter of survival. From here on, I must consider displays of support for the present Republican Administration as support for domestic terrorism. And I am considering any person displaying symbols of such support—bumper stickers, hats, tattoos— a potential terrorist threat to me, my loved ones, my neighbors, and my country. And I will report such displays and persons to the police, and encourage others to do the same” [first draft; based on a friend’s words. How can one improve it? Would you copy/paste & share it?]
Way back in spring, several news outlets reported that the Department of Homeland Security had disbanded a group of analysts who’d been tasked with curtailing domestic terrorism. Because it’s obviously not a problem, apparently. That said, several DHS officials, past and president, were concerned about the move, given the growing threat.
The Daily Beast:
In the wake of this move, officials said the number of analytic reports produced by DHS about domestic terrorism, including the threat from white supremacists, has dropped significantly. People in and close to the department said this has generated significant concern at headquarters.
“It’s especially problematic given the growth in right-wing extremism and domestic terrorism we are seeing in the U.S. and abroad,” one former intelligence official told The Daily Beast.
The group in question was a branch of analysts in DHS’s Office of Intelligence and Analysis (I&A). They focused on the threat from homegrown violent extremists and domestic terrorists. The analysts there shared information with state and local law enforcement to help them protect their communities from these threats.
You reap what you sow. Or I should say, you reap what Donald Trump sows … day after day after day after day.
Now I see that Chris Wallace (an anchor for Faux “News”) has criticized — CRITICIZED — Ol’ Punkinhead for making the patently false — FALSE — claim that the financial impacts upon consumers and businesses of the US Tariffs imposed on Chinese imports is “trivial or non-existent, and, I can tell you, we’re making billions, billions in payments; believe me”. Given the source of this gambit, I’d say that Wallace’s of use of “false” is the equivalent of a responsible journalist organization of calling Ol’ Punkinhead’s claim a bald-faced, brass-bound, buttstrap riveted LIE. Myrtle! Look! The pigs are flyin’!

This is his policy: Something getting close to nipping at his heels? Another racist rant will redirect attention away from what really matters.
