^ Especially if she loses weight over the next 40 weeks.

No. Michael was a teenager and Liz was 10 or 11 when April was born.

There is only two real reasons for gaining (non-baby) weight, It’s called overeating and no exercise. I’m guessing in Elly’s case, it is from nervous eating and eating too many leftovers…

And catlady is completely correct. Elly and John were surprised by April’s appearance when the kids were older. As I recall, she learned about it around her birthday.

There are others, WebSpider, including medical reasons, which was my case a few years back when I needed a mass removed from my pelvic region. Its presence, despite its benignity (it’d been there since birth, but it’d grown), was putting pressure on areas that contribute to weight gain, including my uterus (think hormonal imbalance), my intestines, and my bladder.

Additionally, after receiving steroids to help combat spinal cord cancer, my mom’s weight ballooned up to almost twice her previous weight, and that was the case for her for the last six years of her life, since she had become a quadriplegic.

Lesson: beware of assuming too much. You may be painfully wrong.

As for the strip: has anyone come to the conclusion that Annie’s statement wasn’t just a weight-gain excuse, but a sneaky announcement that it’s the case?

Niki983 - I agree. I weighed less than 100# (I’m only 5’ tall) most of my adult life until I went on steroids to control severe asthma. Now I weigh - never mind - but at least I can breathe.

I think you’re right about Annie’s “announcement”. This must be the 2nd boy, or is it the little girl?

I predict that Elly will NOT be pregnant, but Annie will be. I’m reading it in Divination Class.

    See you tomorrow Neighbours!!

Most of us ladies blame it on Christmas.

No way Elly is pregnant right now. First, as has repeatedly been pointed out, April is not due to be born for another seven or eight years, as Elizabeth was about nine and Michael was around 14 when April was born.

Second, even if Lynn DID decide to bring April on almost a decade early, this would be the wrong time of year for Elly to get pregnant with her. April got her name from the fact that she was actually born IN April. It’d be impossible for Elly to have April this year after only a couple of months of pregnancy, and equally impossible for April to be born NEXT year, as that would subject Elly to a pregnancy of at least 15 months’ duration. Even Lynn can’t ignore the laws of nature!

Good point Niki, My dad was using Prednisone, a corticosteroid, and went from his normal 155 pounds to over 180 pounds. Teri Garr also had a similar weight gain when she was on Prednisone. Those folks who have all the answers typically only see things in black and white, when we all know there are many colors and shades in nearly every issue. Or at least all who think, know that.

Maybe she’s just eating too much. Nah, too simple, and nobody to blame it on.

Niki1983 : If Elly has any medical reason for gaining weight at the moment, I am all ears.

    [insert crickets]

Yeah, that is what I thought…

shoot - as men and women get older their metabolisms change - that is one reaon for weight gain. And yes much is hormonal.

Other reasons? as you become more inactive - your appetite doesn;t change - so overeating occurs. ’ Then illness can be a possibilty.

As much as I like it, alcohol is my biggest foe - followed by bread.

@FishStix, my dad has prostate cancer, and to keep it in check takes testosterone inhibitor. That sends your weight way up also.

You left a letter out of your link, Night-Gaunt49. Here’s the correct link to Lynn’s comments:

Interesting comments today. I was also pleased to see the use of “#” for pound. Reminds me of a neighborhood fruit stand.

Weight gain is pretty easy to do, losing it is harder. I tend to put it on in the winter and take it off in warmer weather, but lately I’ve been eating lots of junk food, so it’s even worse this winter.
