Check the most recent surveys by historians, Clark. Reagan is rated as a “Near Great” president and one of the top 10.

I agree that W will receive a poor rating. He probably will be rated “Below Average” along with Carter and Obama.

Don’t bother Clark with the facts. You could tell him the sky is blue, and he would blame it on Bush

    Hey, Goldie:

As we go a little further along and can judge history a little more accurately, I’m pretty sure that we will find that Reagan was a very significant president, but very, very negative way. The people running our country during his tenure(He did have Altzheimer’s and tended to sleep through cabinet meetings.) were definitely the most corrupt in recent history and they were bent on destroying our middle class. Look at average family incomes.

Similarly, Carter looks better and better. He was sure right on energy. You gotta wonder what his term would have been like if Ted Kennedy and Tip O’Neil had not wanted Carter to look bad so Kennedy could run for president.

Obama put the solar collectors back on the roof that Carter had put there and Reagan removed. I hope we are both still around in a few years when you will get to eat that stuff about Obama being “Below Average.”

It is funny reading the brainwashed lefts rants…almost as good as the comics themselves…

Carter looks better??? He is an embarrassment to the nation eepatte…Reagan is one of the greatest leaders of all time, not just American history. Bush will go down as one of the greatest leaders as well. One cannot liberate tens of millions people without getting accolades later.

^I guess history will reveal if tens of millions have been liberated. But the cost has been hundreds of thousands of Iraqi killed and wounded, millions displaced, infrastructure destroyed, tens of thousands of Americans killed and wounded at a cost of trillions. The American economy gutted. Nope, George doesn’t have a shot at greatness, but easily a candidate for absolute worst.

Reagan was one of the worst presidents in history. He declared war on education, labor, and drugs. He granted amnesty to employers which caused our illegal alien problem, deregulated the s&l market which caused a crash, released mental patients on the street, etc.

There’s a book called tear down this myth. Might want to read it sometime. Good stuff. Biggest myth: he ended communism in Russia by saying tear down this wall.

Reagan was an actor. He was president because of his acting abilities; his appearance, his image, his ability to read lines (“turn the bull loose”, “tear down this wall”) that were written by others.

The “righties” are suffering the same delusions Ron suffered at least by the third year of his first term. All those “walks down the aisle” to the podium, where he never answered an unscripted question, were the stage setup his handlers knew well. They were like showing Mao swimming in the Yangtze, stage dressing to cover the facts.

“Historians” only reflect on popularity, not effectiveness in those “polls” that make Reagan look good. Economically, socially, and environmentally, world-wide, he will be regarded as one of the most destructive forces in U.S. history, but not nearly as bad as President Cheney, er excuse me, “W”.

^ okay, I have no idea of scripting for Reagan… but you can’t really be that foolish to go there. The artisan of scripting and nitpicking questions and questioners is Obama. When everything is done with a prompter and “tough” questions are essentially Nerf balls painted to look hard.

But let’s take your second line of reasoning out to it’s natural conclusion… since the vast majority of today’s media, science and professorial elite are all on the left… then they are the ones that are writing the history. That would mean that many of the views above are mere extensions of that. Furthermore, anything negative about either Bush and anything positive about Clinton too will be just revisionist falsehood.

Historians for several decades now have been on the left. If Reagan has high regard by left leaning historians then he must have been brilliant… or just not as conservative as many on the right would like to believe.

You have basically negated and defeated every point you will ever want to make about historical facts, dtroutma, especially those that favor your own view. Not wise.

^^ That was pretty much what I was saing in my comment, too. Reagan was a simple screen actor there to look good on camera while reading speeches written by others with policies decided by others and that’s pretty much what every president has been ever since.

The people don’t elect a president anymore. They elect the actor who plays a president character as created by their party.

Image STARTED being important under JFK as TV became the most important media but with Reagant not onoly the image is more important than thought; all thought is gone. Nothing, I really mean NOTHING but the image matters.

FDR was hiding the fact that he was in a wheelchair, but he is the one that won WW2 and gotb America out of the depression. There was some PR, but there was some message, too.

And I didn’t say that only Reagan was just an actor for a president character created by others, I said every president since has been like that.

I wouldn’t call him the 2nd worst President ever. He was certainly the best at bamboozling the country. But even Ronnie wasn’t as doctrinaire are W. I would say the worst was Buchanan, with his treasonous treatment of the seceding states, followed by Nixon, with his abuse of power (using the IRS to harass his “enemies”, and so forth). I don’t know who did the most graft, but I doubt it was Reagan.
