There is a war on science and a war against education by those who depend on an ignorant, uneducated voting populace to keep them in office.

We see it in not only the war against immunizations, but also in the attacks on climate science and the war against biological science in denying evolution. We even see it in the amazing resurgence of people who are seriously arguing that the earth is flat and not spherical and that the earth, not the sun, is the center of the solar system.

Anti-vaxxers and climate deniers are just the latest incarnation of Flat Earth superstitious ignorance.

Trying to be “fair and balanced” is false “equivalence.” There is nothing remotely approaching balance between climate scientists and climate deniers (most funded by big energy corporations).

Thank you for this. A clear and succinct message. I’d like to see posters of it everywhere.

I admit the anti-vaxxer movement puzzles me. Part of the American psyche has an anti-authoritarian strain, and self-reliance was, and is to a degree, a noble virtue. But the Nation became great because of the idea that the Common Good sometimes overrides the Individual Good. We banded together to protect and promote each other’s welfare. But now, it appears that the Common Good has become an oxymoron, replaced by selfish, and in this case, perhaps deadly, self-interest.
