Is that a recent development?

Rover has to get used to the new leash – love, hugs, and long Sunday walks for Red and Rover

I really have had dogs like that. They had to have a long leash to get away from me where they could ‘go’.

Never understood those “extendible” leashes…

Extendable leashes only give the appearance of control. They are so long, that if their dog decided to chase something or someone they would just end up tangling themselves around trees, posts, people’s legs, other dogs, fences …. Actually, they are a menace! And don’t get me started on harnesses on dogs! Just encourages them to pull harder!

Y’know what? That Red’s gonna be a good daddy!

I love Red & Rover – such a great age – now if we can just ditch the brother it would be the perfect comic (though thankfully the brother doesn’t show up often, thank you for that Brian) Red & Rover are the best !!!!

Aww. Rover shouldn’t be shy like that, but isn’t Red thoughtful?

Did they even have that kind of retractable leash back in the time-period in which the strip is set?

long leashes can be dangerous. my sister’s dog was hit by a car after he suddenly ran after a squirrel on his retractable leash.
