My dad’s 53 Hudson had the worst wipers, powered only by vacuum pressure from the intake manifold, they were expected to fail – there was a lever on the dash for manual assist.

I had an early 70’s truck that had intermittent wipers. Sometimes they worked, sometimes they didn’t.
