My parents-in-law are doing this in huge numbers. They even write to a man my father-in-law met only about almost 60 years ago in the military. They exchange pictures and everything, but only at Christmas time. No visits, no letters during the year, no emails or messenger texting (do not even have their phone numbers). But they feel good about it.
