    R-E-S-P-E-C-T the Natural Woman who rose from gospel singer in the church where her father was one of the most renowned African American preachers, to one of the most popular, beloved and talented performers in American history. First woman in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. First African American woman to sing at a presidential inauguration. When five-year-old Aretha moved into the Detroit (motor city; Motown) neighborhood of eight-year-old Smokey Robinson, who became a life long family friend, he reports he was immediately impressed with her enormous talent.

    Tonight, Aretha, we ALL “say a little prayer for you.”

    She has been around all of my life and thanks to her many recordings she will be around long after I’m gone. Respect is the perfect description of her life.
