I think yo’all are right — this story arc is going to go until the anniversary in November. But then, GA story lines have always been extremely slow moving. True fans put up with it.
Sept. 4 strip had comments speculating about the strip continuing but with someone else. Supposing one person wrote the story line and another did the art, there’s one long-time reader who I think would be great for the story line. He used to post really good alternate sequences in the comments section several years ago. He still comments, though rarely, so I suspect he’s still reading. (You know who you are!)
