And if you’re also not wearing pants while making the call you will be bailed out.

Teresa - So do I. Looong time ago.

Brings to mind an incident in the church youth group. We told the kids to call their parents and tell them what time to come pick them up. Well, the church actually had an old rotary wall phone in the kitchen. One of the girls came back and said she doesn’t know how to use that kind of phone. And that really happened just here recently!

Thanks for answering my question Newenglandah, I was wondering of those old rotary phones still work with today’s phone lines.

davidf42 and Newenglandah, I know this to be very common amongst contemporary (American) generations. Kind of scary really.

I remember not just using the rotatry phones but also the long cords attached to phone base on the wall. My sisters while growing up had that cord rapped all over the place. You had to really watch your step going around furniture and corners so you didn’t get tripped. Ahh the pre cordless days.

Cordless phones are nice, but my corded phone will call for pizza when the power is out and the electric ignitors on my stove don’t work.

Ahh, the days of rotary dials and party lines. And yes … it is really a sad state of affairs when young people today cannot tell time on a conventional clock or watch.

I grew up with both the rotary phone and the party line.

My late maternal grandmother even had a rotary phone (no party line however.) One time, many years ago, when my cousins were visting, they tried using the rotary and didn’t know to “spin” the dial rather than just pushing the “buttons”.

Black and white TV. Water from the well. Outhouses. The good old days when kids were kids instead of marketing devices though Sonny did say teeny bopper was our new-born king.

Thank You Alexander Graham Bell for paving the way for the information Superhighway! Ziggy, if you are calling from a rotary phone you may qualify for a lot of things. Take it while you can still get it.

The digital ease of not needing to understand a clock face is what texting will likely do to the accuracy and comprehension of our future, American ‘spellers’. Ahhh progress!
