We figured out what is wrong with the slide-out. It would seem that I did more damage than previously thought when I hit that pole. Two of the brackets that hold the slide cover (an awning that opens with the slide and protects the top from debris and rain) got seriously bent. They are pretty heavy metal, too. I got up on the roof yesterday morning and removed both of the bent pieces and now the slide will go all the way out. Those two pieces need to be replaced, of course, but now at least the tech will know what needs to be ordered. One of them supports the middle of the 25+ foot roll and the other is an end piece that is (somehow) a brake mechanism so it doesn’t unroll. I don’t really want to drive at freeway speeds with both of them gone because I can just see that roll coming undone and billowing in the wind. At least we have our living space back. We are now scheduled to be here at least 3 weeks (the limit of our Thousand Trails allowable free stay) and may have to move to another local campground depending on how soon the mirror and the brackets can be shipped and installed. So for now, everything is pushed back by 2 weeks including our stay in New York. We’ll be there Aug 10 thru 17 if everything goes according to plan. After that we will head to Maine and stay there for 2 weeks and then head back to Nevada via Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, Arkansas, Oklahoma, New Mexico and Arizona. All except the last two will be new territory for us. We should be back in Las Vegas by October 1 if we don’t have any more surprises.
It’s 63 here right now, with an expected high of 82. A nice change from the mid-90’s.
Another 91 degree day yesterday. Did all my running around before 2 yesterday, so I could enjoy the rest of the afternoon stress free. More of the same for today.
Jan, what an experience you two are going through! You are quite the mountain climber. How many times have you climbed to the top of your RV? Never would be able to even attempt it. Good for you!
