Just go to the local drugstore and you can find a nice six-footer for $25, max. No need to turn to a life of crime …

For those who don’t know Philly, Rittenhouse Square is a one-block park that lends its name to the most popular and densely populated neighborhood of the city.

The late, great writer on city life, Jane Jacobs, in one of her books analyzed the reasons for the success of Rittenhouse Square compared to the relative failure of the other four parks (counting the one obliterated by building City Hall) that William Penn laid out. The closest thing to a controlled experiment in city planning history according to her.

A lovely little park, but no woods. A bit of poetic license by MT.

Rittenhouse Park… Square maybe, and yes no forest, large trees maybe, no pines though, but kinda assume no one would get Fairmount Park or the Wissahickon. But then I always assumed that Heart was a roxborough or manayunk sort of girl given some of the references.

I don’t know why he didn’t just use Fairmount Park. It’s big and definitely has some trees!.

I’m from Philly myself, and I’ve been wondering what neighborhood Heart & her mom live in. I was kinda leaning towards West Philly myself. They might try Clark Park. Or if they are further towards 63d street, they could venture into Cobbs Creek if the go during the day and avoid gang turf. Many great memories of Rittenhouse Square, and kinda wish the cartoonist had used the proper name. Does the city have a copyright on park names??

Time for a stupid plan that lasts enough strips to reach the 25th.
