Yikes! So Mrs. W.‘s philanthropy is more self-serving than public-minded… and it’s designed to make her daughter’s life decisions for her as well. Maybe that’s why Dana thinks the family’s money is toxic.

In other words – that place was not made to help the hospital, but because she could waste money.

This is what you call being “stupid rich”.

It’s like, buying a house for $300 mil, which on a rational level gives you nothing you can’t get for $3 mil — so paying 300 times what you have to is “stupid”.

But you’ve got more than enough money, so, eh! why not?

The irony is that Mrs. W is planning to reEward Marcie and punish her daughter because they did basically the same ghing;:each turned down a lucrative career option in the face of opposition from friends and/or family.

People do sometimes (most of the time) have more than one motive for why they do something. If you have the money you can do something that will benefit the community and someone in particular at the same time. And it’s possible when you think you have done something for someone that they will appreciate, and will be just perfect for them, and they turn you down, to feel hurt and rejected, even if you are loaded.
