I’m not ordinary, and I see this 3 billion as just another waste, like two stupid, unwinnable wars, rebuilding Iraq and Afghanistan when our own infrastructure is falling down, and the long list of wasteful weapons that sometimes never get built.
The ordinary Senator or Congressman probably has no idea what a loaf of bread costs, and no common sense.

the US aid to Israel totals about $3 billion PER YEAR, and is balanced by about $3 billion a year to EGYPT.
In August 2010, Obama agreed to sell Saudi Arabia 84 F-15 fighter jets…..”part of the largest arms deal in American history”…..
Israel then asked for a sale by the US to Israel of 20 F-35 jets worth $2 billion….which somehow has been tied (by US people, no doubt) to a renewed 90-day freeze on building (by Jews on Jewish-owned land).
the term is ‘SALE’….not “gift”….
US foreign policy has been to help Israel maintain capability of defending from all the hostile nations that have started wars since 1948 to take all Israeli land, and military equipment is part of the plan.
(p.s. the foreign aid is a small % of the total annual spending by Congress and the Prez…..now at a level of about $2 Trillion a year….47% BORROWED MONEY)

That initial sale is paid by the US aid to Israel. I like your statement “…balanced by a about $3 billion a year to Egypt”. Balanced in what way?
