Was there a sentient human being who actually thought a Democratic controlled House of Representatives would give Rangel anything more than a slap on the wrist?

It is is such closed club that I think even if Republican controlled the results would have been the same.

it is only a slap on the wrist, not a House-cleaning!

it is nothing to brag about by the neutral (50% D and 50% R ) ethics committee— that took over 2 years to “investigate” 13 charges that built up over the 40 years Rangel was in the House, and who knows how many years he was betraying the trust of the People?

not all 435 House members are scoff-laws….but I agree that Congress is a “club” or worse…they act as if they were sworn into office and became American Royalty!

How about we donate a dollar for a new LARGE plaque above the Speaker’s dais, saying “SERVANTS OF THE PEOPLE”….?

The Republican speaker is planning to gut the Office of Congressional Ethics put in by Nancy Pelosi (and let’s admit it–it found some wrong-doing, it did its job here). Some tea party activists in Ohio are not at all pleased – this is kind of non-political investigation is the sort of thing that the tea party stands for, and despite their preaching, the R’s are on the wrong side and Nancy Pelosi is on the right side.

And as for not expelling Rangel – making errors on taxes (willful or not) is bad, possibly criminal. But it’s not as bad as prostituting the office and taking bribes for personal gain like the Abramoff cases that prompted the office to be formed, or Ted Stevens accepting a vacation home from people who benefit from government, or Rob Blegowhatever selling favors. What Rangel did was wrong. But it wasn’t bad enough to throw him out when he quite clearly represents the voters in his district well (he won re-election at 80% because his policies are what his voters want).

There are a lot more Duke Cunninghams out there, and Newts, so Boehner AIN’T going to go anywhere as a follow up.
