Except, of course, that earmarks don’t actually cut anything from the budget. They redirect money that’s already been allocated.

Funny how the Republicans have so far proposed nothing that will reduce the deficit, but almost a trillion in extra deficit spending. But, that’s what they ran on…

Part of budgeting IS redirecting funds. It’s funny how Libs are always slamming the GOP for being the party of the rich, while claiming to have economic competence. Except for celebrities and heirs, people get rich by doing smart things with money. Note: I did not say honest things; but smart! At least not stupid. At least not AS stupid as Democratic party economic policy.

They both belong to the same super-party: Politicians. And politicians spend other people’s money to make their own. As the Founders knew, the only effective checks against Federal spending are the competing selfish interests of The People (who have long since decided we like spending beyond our means to get whatever we want—mostly leisure) and the individual States (which have been stripped of influence, thanks to the 17th Amendment).

It doesn’t matter who’s doing what to the Federal budget; the problem has less to do with parties and more to do with centralized power. Join the 10th Amendment movement if you want responsible government. Stand on the 10th to repeal the 17th to revitalize States to repeal the 16th to restore America’s economy. There really is no other way.

IMO, an Earmark is a gift card addressed to a congressman’s pet project or pet donor….taking budget money that should be better used for necessary items, and this Earmark “windfall” escapes monitoring or auditing to a large extent, leading to annual lists of incredible federal waste of money, usually in some area the Constitution intended to be private sector or state/local government responsibility.

I would like to see Special Project Fundings CANCELLED and BANNED.

Prove it is Constitutional spending or Take It Out of the Budget….!

So, disgusted taxpayer, you like having the decisions of what’s necessary spending decided by the Obama administration’s unelected bureaucrats, because they’re more qualified and honest than your congressman or woman? Nice to see you coming down on that side for a change. :-)

dt, like 99.9% of the populace, and especially “TEA party” folks, and those commenting on budget issues– has no clue whatsoever how the federal budget process actually works. Line items, riders, and “earmarks” are confused, and substituted for each other, and it really get’s hilarious when things become “Obama’s budget”. (Or for that matter “Bush’s”) with no understanding of the role of folk’s individual Congressperson NOT acting in their interest.

^ I looked up “quantitative easing” and it is one of the most confusing concepts. Not really printing money as I have heard some complain about.
