Uncle Sam determined that I was not suited for military service in the Viet Nam era. I didn’t argue. Seeing the condition of the guys that came back (dead, missing parts, broken bodies and minds) I learned to appreciate the sacrifices made by our soldiers. I also learned to detest the warmongering “leaders” political, military and corporate that made those sacrifices unnecessarily possible.
My dad also went over to Korea in the Army. When he went over all we had under Allied control was the Puson area. He started out a radio operator, then retrained to be a chaplain’s assistant. He saw plenty, but like Gramps, didn’t have to shoot anyone.
