Assad isn’t going anywhere without Putin’s say. Putin seems to be more than happy to exchange insults with Trump. He’ll be more than happy to exchange more than that, if Trump thinks he can actually do more than bomb runways.
This is about how badly Trump needs to establish that he’s not Putin’s puppet, not about helping Syria.
We’ll hold our breath for Trump to replace Assad after he helped Trump’s dismal ratings by bombing a useless target. The first 80 days have been a disaster, do you really think this administration could pull of regime change in Syria without making a complete mess of it? Maybe they’ll have McConnell in charge of the vote and install someone everyone hates in Syria like he did for the supreme court?

Right now Bashar-el-Assad has been winning against the civil war. Though whole parts of Syria are barely habitable.
