SAM’S SCHOOL FOR SUPER VILLAINS Bayonne, NJ Lesson #78: Victim Selection It is important for the aspiring antagonist to use care in selecting his/her victims – especially if he/she wants to live longer than a mere “guest shot.” In the case study above, Mr. “Bonifay” realizes that, while the kid has derailed his plans once before, she is the star of the strip and (as we have seen) has some astounding resources backing her up. Should he try to take her on once more at his current stage of development, he would only end up in jail again… or back in the quicksand with the leeches. So, he has (wisely) opted to target his evil doings on a recurring character with a shady past. Mind you – not that this will necessarily work out any better for him, but he at least has a shot at escaping the jungle to tangle with the kid another day. One of the things we try to drive home to our students is that overreach has been the downfall of many a budding bad guy; let’s see how “Bonifay” handles this…
