Depends on the camera. It won’t happen with an SLR, because you can’t see anything through the viewfinder if the lens cap is on. Same goes for any camera that views through the lens, even the recent mirrorless models. It could happen with any camera that has a viewfinder separate from the lens, but those tend to be older models.
