Fennec, I see it as in case 1 most of America supported the troops and the cause. In case 2 most of America supported the troops but not as many support the cause.
I fully support our troops, and I fully condemn the perpetrators (Cheney, Bush, Rumsfeld) for leading us into such a morally bankrupt, unnecessary quagmire.
Oooh, mesa scared, big right-wing man attacks patriotism, oh noooez… Well, by that yardstick, today’s Republicans wouldn’t even have a D-Day - they would have attacked China after Pearl Harbor. ;)
Then again, you do have some point. There are some differences between Democrats in the 40s and now… the ones back then might have actually carried through their policy without bending over in light wind whenever someone criticized them. I wonder what the current pundits would have thought about FDR’s policies back in the day.

The cause in case two was a sham.

To be expected when Shrub lied to get us into an unnecessary war.
