Truman: Technically, therefore, there shouldn’t be a period after the S.

So does this Borneo frog have gills instead? (Truman’s parents couldn’t agree to name him after his grandfathers Anderson [S]hipp Truman or [S]olomon Young. They went with both.)

If “S.” doesn’t stand for a name, why the period?(My dad didn’t have a middle name either, but he had to have a middle name/“initial” when he went into the military.)

The “S.” in the name of Ulysses S. Grant (18th President of the US) stand’s for ‘nothing’. He was born “Hiram Ulysses Grant”.http://blog.nyhistory.org/ulysses-grant/
