Harley obviously doesn’t get the basis of this comic — the government is letting BP determine and define the extent of the gusher’s damages. The arsonist becomes the fire investigator.
It is worth noting that the cartoonist’s home paper is in Mississippi and is directly affected. Not saluting BP makes him a chicken little?
Actually the damage is INSIDE the fish (and shellfish), not outside, in part thanks to the dispersants. The Mississippi and other rivers and sources have long contaminated (poisoned) the Gulf for many decades, as have oil refineries on the Gulf, and wells IN the Gulf. “Out of sight, out of mind” is accepted by those who are out of their minds.
BP would happily sell chocolate covered cotton to an eager public Heller couldn’t have anticipated, well maybe he did.
Incredible how many people are prepared to roll the dice on environmental damage and just assume that no matter how much damage we do, nature will repair.
If that was the prevailing world view, I suspect that in, say 100 years or so, when the earth could be severely damaged, our descendents would then be asking why we were such reckless fools to gamble with the future and well-being of mankind.
With the Gulf spill, short and long run damages are not entirely clear and predictable, and we’d be idiots not to hold the drillers to high standards of prevention and, if necessary, clean-up.
Wow, that you still post and vaguely think that we can hope to hurt this planet before it gets rid of us just amazes me. Are you that arrogant to think for one second that mother nature would not get rid of us like she did the dinosaurs?

The twenty percent of oil that’s “dispersed” is actually in the bottom of the sea.
