President Obama has called for closing Gitmo, the Republicans have dug their heels in again. Republican states have pledges to block Syrian refugees from resettling in the U.S. ISIS is creating it’s own messaging app for communications and propaganda needs. Lone wolf attackers are a concern that has a greater likelihood than we have seen in years. The Department of Justice wants Apple to open a backdoor in its technology that will open the last tech privacy that we have. While fellow tech companies and their leaders are speaking out looking for balance between privacy and government access to information. The Supreme Court is to rule on abortion, immigration, affirmative action and voting rights this year. Scalia himself would not recuse himself during a case because he thought an 8-Justice court would not serve the public interest, I am sure he would not think keeping the seat would be in the public’s interest. More than a quarter of the Senate has not been through a Supreme Court nomination process, so maybe they do not know how it works. And Obama’s plan to let detainees in – to a facility on U.S. soil, not just let them loose.
