Denmark certainly is going out of its way to make their country as unwelcome as possible…searching refugees for valuables in order to cover their costs. Nice.
“What’s wrong with making them pay for what they receive?”
What they may have after leaving their devasted homelands, even if not from a war-torn region, is next to nothing. You and I both now that what they may possess in no way will repay what a host country will spend in sheltering them, even if they fail in their bid for asylum. Denmark itself admits it is a symbolic gesture. As a symbolic gesture it is akin to kicking people, already on the ground, in the teeth as well, and going through their purse. The symbolism is great, without a doubt, but is it what Denmark wishes to be remembered for.
