If we had modern electronics in Jefferson’s time, his relationship with Sally Hemmings would have been public knowledge, and considering public opinion of that sort of thing at that time, he would have never been elected to anything and never accomplished anything. Granted producing multiple children with the slaves was acceptable, but taking them to Paris and dancing with them at parties as your date would have been the kiss of death.
