This reminds me of a trend that was big in the ’90s and thankfully seems to have disappeared. Many back then either used to find something in the dollar stores that at least appeared to be a bit more expensive and tried to pass it off as something that really cost them a lot more than that. Or even worse, there were those then who used to put together some silly trinket by hand and pass it off as “I labored all day to make this for you”. Just what I needed – a pot holder made of popsicle sticks. A hollow gesture that is hard on both giver and recipient. Better to just say “Merry Christmas” and not bother with the rest. To me, a sincere “Merry Christmas” is worth a lot more, anyway.
