… So, now that it is blazing hot across the east and northeast, what do the global warming deniers say about the weather? In the winter, when we had blizzards, it was proof that global warming was b.s. Now, with all the heat… ???

Not a bad analogy - the McNews weather people often sound more annoying than the clime itself (the “Today’s gonna be a scorcher!” sing-song sorta ruined the little available breeze wafting through the window this morn).

But then, I suppose they’re just programmed/hatched to talk like that anyway. The brass somehow thinks it’s good for ratings.

It’s global cooling at work! Icebergs and glaciers are GROWING! Ocean pH is STABLE, and no oil is spilling in the Gulf– it’s all “natural tar balls”.

Yes, it’s a short-term WEATHER pattern, but it DOES reflect climate change when looking over the last ten years of temperature data, and then going back to when many world laws changed impacts because part of the contaminants, like the particulates, were regulated by many nations, including ours.

I wouldn’t say that one hot week proves that there’s global warming, and I don’t think anyone who thinks about it seriously would say so. I think that point is that when there was a lot of snow last winter, some people did argue that the snow was a disproof of global warming. These people, by their own standard of argument, should now admit that global warming is real.

The people who argue that global warming is happening don’t just look at a week here and there – they look at long term trends, and they also try to understand the physical mechanisms. The science is fairly complicated, and I don’t consider myself knowledgeable enough to take a position. But I’m working on it.

fennec – you may not realize this, but you’ve taught me a lot. Your posts are one of the main reasons I return to this forum.
