If I’m reading the cartoon correctly, Lester is saying that signs do not magically protect anyone. Odd that some commenters find that idea debatable or (because it presents “an inconvenient truth”) offensive.
Mike, the real solution is to confiscate handguns. Compensate the owners and confiscate every handgun found anywhere. Certainly there would have to be exceptions for non-police, non-military handgun ownership, but we need to make these exceptions relatively rare. Guns are a force multiplier that’s simply not a good idea in our society. There are too many people for whom the lethal power is simply not appropriate. For the common good, the society needs to protect itself. Sometimes the rights of the collective are way, way, more important than individual rights. Duh.
so, if everyone is armed, there would be a safer society? isn’t yemen and somalia, places where everyone is armed. doesn’t seem a safer society in yemen and somalia.
@Mike LesterI agree we could put a sign saying “stupidity free zone” all over the country, but they never leave. They still want to control even the air we breathe, lake making bad breath illegal.
No, you don’t have to change a thing. You just have to interpret it the way it was written. Confine all arms to a well regulated militia. There you go.
In the words of Yosemite Same “Whoa mule.” Gun control is not the point. The point is that GUN FREE ZONE signs are antithetical to safety. They literally advertise where victims are to be found. That people are baffled by the concept of conceal carry is frustrating: I don’t think everybody should carry. I just think the bad guys shouldn’t know.
I guess you are right. I am sure the framers meant to have everyone possess at least one armament capable of releasing 30 rounds of high powered ammo in 10 seconds, then switch magazine in another 10 to continue.
Only “gun free zone” in my town is the courthouse. Which also houses the Sheriff’’s office, and they all have guns, so is “gun free” just another myth?

Why are switchblade knives outlawed? Are they arms?
And why is there no outcry from 2nd amendment defenders?
