All religions promote gambling. You give them your hard earned money and they promise you life after death. If that ain’t a gamble, I don’t know what is.

What’s the problem with an attached island formed by erosion and wave action?

    LOL…good one, runar, good one!

I’ll admit I had to look it up. I suppose it’s an alternate form of Bingo.

Never heard of it, and I’m Roman Catholic. Now there’s a religion that knows how to raise money through gambling…anyone want to buy a raffle ticket for my parish’s building fund? :D

What the heck does tombola or tornbola (spelling word) mean? I’ve never heard of that word before. I checked the dictionary via the Internet about that word but it was not in the dictionary. sighhhh! :-/

Fred, you and your master are lucky to hide the fence while the vicar walked on the sidewalk past you guys. LOLs!

By the way, I posted the comment regarding the Chihuahua dog killing by the two Pitbull dogs in the newspaper yesterday. I was the last person to post the comment in the box for Fred Bassett strip (about Yorkie who was so brave to bark at the Gang dogs. I think that strip was so awesome and funny.) The newspaper was about the Chihuahua dog sadly. If you were not read the article yet, here is the link and read it.

A raffle in which everybody loses except the winner. But it does raise money for a good cause.

The usual way to run a tombola is first to ask for donations of lots of prizes. These may be themed e.g. bottles (gleaning anything from ketchup to cola or whisky) or balls (safer for school fairs!) or bric a brac. You then have a set of paired numbered tickets. Those ending with 0 or 5 are stuck to the prizes; all of the counter set are placed in a drum which can be rotated. The player then picks out one or more tickets (usually 1 ticket for 50p, 3 for a pound (sorry, US keyboard no pound sign!). So you have a 2 in 5 chance of winning something somebody else didn’t want ;-)

A fairly innocuous and non-addictive form of gambling for an organization which probably only exists because some deluded people buy into Pascal’s wager.
