It would’ve been really funny if this British strip had run next Monday, as that is the day that the U.S. will officially celebrate Independence Day (even though the date of July 4th falls on Sunday)…
That strip looks like the master and wife are up and read the newspapers with their hot teas to drink in the morning. Fred is on the bed comfortably. I think the master and wife need a brand new KING size bed so they and Fred can make more extra-comfortable. :-)

Now can anyone answer silverstate’s question? Is it because there are so many football players in the UK that they want to enter more than one team? I thought it odd that England was waving a different flag, not the Union Jack. I think they called it the St. George’s cross.
The full name of our country is:
The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The Great Britain part is made up of the ancient kingdoms of England and Scotland, and the principality of Wales. So, our country is in fact made up of 4 countries. In some sports, football, rugby, cricket etc. we play as individual countries. But sometimes, we play as the British lions, normally in some rugby matchs, this is all 4 countries making up 1 team.
Then again, in other sports we compete as 1 team, Great Britain, but never the United Kingdom.
As for the flag. The Union Jack, or Union Flag, is the flag of the UK. It is made up by the individual flags of England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland. It is the crosses of St George (England), St Andrew (Scotland), St David (Wales) and St Patrick (Ireland).
Hope this helps, we even get confused sometimes!
Just like Andy Murray. We (Americans) seem to be more thrilled about his appearance @ Wimbledon than the British. Why? Because the average English citizen will quickly point out that he’s a Scot. In fact there have been quotes from the faithful on Henman Hill, and I quote, “Well he’s not English is he?”. ‘Nuff said.
The English call Andy Murray British when he’s winning but a Scot when he loses .
I work for an American company; my managers often seem vaguely puzzled that I’m working on July 4th. We’re not quite so delighted to be shot of a troublesome colony as to want to celebrate ;-)
