I’d heard that about the old universities of Colonial America - even Harvard if memory serves. I’ve also heard - although I cannot point you here and now to proof - that Hebrew very nearly became the national language by fiat. I rather wish it had; I would’ve grown up with the language rather than having to learn it as an adult…
