The dead wildlife are stacking up. The food chain is disrupted, waters- including soon fresh waters are contaminated, and LL- fret not, more people WILL soon be dying from the effects of this event, and it is unlikely to surface for years.
As sad as the loss of human life is at the moment- it is small compared to the long term. The focus on lost tourism revenue is perhaps the greatest sign of ignorance and stupidity in the situation.
