There were plenty of things I didn’t like in college, but I was grateful just to go to college and get an education. It never occurred to me to ask for an extension on deadlines, I simply did the work. I did gripe about the amount of work and study to my few friends and my girlfriend, now wife.

There was only once I protested a grade along with the entire class. It was an Applied Psychology class. The professor stated he graded on the curve. Mid-terms came around and I scored a 97 on the test and was given a “B.” The lowest score, (if memory serves) an 89 and that student was given an “F.” We first appealed to the professor who said he applied the curve and the lowest score got an “F” and the highest, a 99 got an “A” and he would not be changing the grade. When our appeal failed with him, we went to the Dean. The Dean was more than a bit incensed over the matter and everyone got the proper grade for the score they received.

The professor left at the end of the academic year because he didn’t have tenure and his contract wasn’t renewed. Bottom line is, we all learned a bit about Applied Psychology, including the professor.
