Andy has had the deck stacked against him right from the beginning!
It is no wonder that Flo and Andy are always at the marriage counselor. Flo’s “Mum” has been trying to scuttle their blessed union before it even began.
dkram Flo may have threathen mom not to speak up about their marriage. If anyone knows why these two…..
Flo is trying to have a good memory of their wedding only Andy can remember the bad.
Despite her rudeness and continued disrespect for their loving union Andy and Flo have stayed together some 50 years. It warms my heart to see two people that can rise above those events that try everyone endeavoring to make a good marriage work. Your both shining examples of what a good man and woman can be/do when they’re in love!
And in Flo’s case, just because the fruit didn’t fall too far from the tree doesn’t mean she can’t grow far and above that of her mum leaving her to remain ever lost in the shadow of the better person.
“The music is the wedding march for women and the funeral march for men?”
Phooey. To be a single man in our society is like smoking 2-1/2 packs of cigarettes a day. That’s how much longer married men live than single men. Statistically they rate as more happy, more productive, have better sex, and on and on (and ON).
Of course, there are then the individual cases. A bad marriage can be worse than no marriage. Much worse.
What we actually have in Andy Capp is a divorce (as in, major train wreck) waiting to happen, artificially prolonged for the sake of humor (and this isn’t the only venue that the Brits have for expressing that meme). Mum seems to have been the only one in the cathedral with a lick of sense.

Poor Andy. Mum’s had it in for you since day one. Little wonder a man’s got to take a drink every now and then.
