Don’t bother pointing out that many Supreme Court Justices had little, or no judical experience, such as Sanda Day O’Conner who was appointed by Reagen, because the GOP doesn’t care – this is just an attack point, no more no less, because attack is what the GOP does because they want to get people angry because angry people do stupid things like vote for the GOP.

Kagan clerked for Thurgood Marshall - I’d give her points for that. Her background is pretty impressive too!

“No experience”? About what does Lisa Benson refer? Elana Kagan has 25 years of legal experience. If Benson has substantial criticism of Kagan, then she should be more specific.

As for President Obama’s experience, he has more than did Abraham Lincoln. Would Benson have voted against Lincoln, too?

Lisa is referring to the fact that Kagan has never been a judge. She also has no paper trail apart from a 1995 paper stating that Supreme Court justices should have practical judge experience.

It’s quite ironic that Benson would slam her for being so enamored of Obama, don’t you think?

Technically, this strip is not ripping on Kagan for a lack of experience. It is definitely ripping on Obama for a lack of experience.

And, did you know, Obama is now revealed to have a Connecticut Social Security number issued in the late 1970’s. He worked in Hawaii in 1975 and has no known connection to CT whatsoever. You defenders of Obama have no idea what he’s even about, it’s amazing. He’s as transparent as the water around BP’s well in the Gulf.

Well, I think we have seen first hand what a lack of presidential experience means for the country. As we plunge deeper toward socialism, I doubt any of our commentary will preclude Kagan’s inevitable confirmation. She’s been hand picked for the job.

    ‘Nuff said.

“As for President Obama’s experience, he has more than did Abraham Lincoln. Would Benson have voted against Lincoln, too?”

Yeah, comparing Lincoln to Obama was just as ridiculous during the elections when they tried it, and its no less so now.

Lincoln taught himself to be a lawyer, with no formal education, whereas Obama attended private schools and a university. Lincoln had only one term as a U.S. representative, but he sacrificed a likely term in the Senate in order to ensure a candidate would win who would keep slavery out of Nebraska. He literally told all of his supporters to vote for someone else. Can you even imagine Obama sacrificing ANY political office for the good of an issue?

Also, Lincoln was a Republican, and Obama is a Democrat, the same party that refused to end slavery. Ironic.

Oh, and here’s a fun fact. Lincoln argued before the Supreme Court, something Elena Kagan has never done.

Elena Kagan has never been a judge. When G.H.W. Bush selected Clarence Thomas, he had been a judge for one year. Was Lisa Benson against his appointment?

When Richard Nixon nominated William Rehnquist, he had never been a judge. Was Lisa Benson against his appointment?

When Lyndon Johnson nominated Thurgood Marshall, he had never been a judge. Was Lisa Benson against his appointment?

When Ronald Reagan nominated Sandra Day O’Connor, she had been a judge only five years. Was Lisa Benson against her appointment?

When Richard Nixon nominated Lewis Powell, he had never been a judge. Was Lisa Benson against his appointment?

When John Kennedy nominated Byron White, he had never been a judge. Was Lisa Benson against his appointment?

I could go on, but we all get the point: out of 111 Supreme Court Justices, FORTY have had no judicial experience. Benson does not know what she’s writing about.

Ventril., you do not know what you are writing about in regard to Abraham Lincoln. He did not create the Republican Party. He joined it when the Whig Party folded. Furthermore, he had one term in the House: two years of federal experience. President Obama had four. What history tells us is that electoral experience is a bad predictor of presidential greatness or even competence. The greatest president of the last hundred years, Franklin Roosevelt, had very little electoral experience: one term as governor of New York.

Camealy, Kagan has argued before the Supreme Court. Check ALL your facts.

“You are all about abortion, sexual perversion, gun control, socialisms, animal rights and environment.”

LoL!! I’d take that over the Republican party: destruction of the non-white Christian majority. They’d turn us into the Taliban if they could, and would kill anyone who disagree with them to keep it that way. Hurray for stupid extremes, right “changehashappened”? I’d say “hail Jesus” but that’d require that they follow the teachings of Jesus, but as we all know he was a socialist who didn’t judge people so that can’t be right.

Jesus was a socialist. What a boring lie. Jesus’ Kingdom was not of this world. Socialism is bringing the government into bear on every aspect of this world. Polar opposites. You mean because he was against material accumulation? That’s called charity, not socialism! Jesus was in favor of individual charity, not Caesar distributing “the wealth” as he saw fit.

Is the Social Security about Obama’s birth? Well, tangentially, of course. But it’s mostly about how his entire narrative doesn’t add up. You’ll see.

Again, you guys are missing the point. This strip is not quite knocking Kagan for her lack of experience. It IS making her out to be a Harriet Miers, i.e. a questionable appointment who is nominated largely out of a personal friendship.

40 of the 111 (36%) Supreme Court justices did not have previous judicial experience. A credit to her credentials that that’s the main criticism. That and questioning her orientation because she played softball 16 years ago. Where I went to school all the girls played softball, They had to - we needed them to make a team.

Re: Who got Harriet Miers canned?

    From The Washington Post

Miers, Under Fire From Right, Withdrawn as Court Nominee* (posted Oct. 28, 2005

She Cites Senate Requests For White House Papers

“The Bush administration withdrew the Supreme Court nomination of White House Counsel Harriet Miers yesterday, bowing to intensifying attacks from right-leaning activists challenging the depth of her conservative credentials and the strength of her judicial qualifications.

“…”We are assured that the president will keep his promise to nominate a strict constructionist,” said Jan LaRue, chief counsel of Concerned Women for America, which opposed Miers. Although Miers is an evangelical Christian, the group nonetheless accused her of supporting people and groups who “undermine respect for life and family.””

Do you really think Jesus was more concerned with where the help came from or whether the poor were getting the help they needed?

yes i believe Jesus was concerned method [ in this case $ taken under threat} as well as result – Jesus advocated charity something goverments cannot do

Fennec, your comment is a sidestep of the issue. (vote em all out) refers to politicians on the take, who don’t have the country’s interests at heart.

Nobody ever said that congressional and senatorial candidates shouldn’t have political experience at the local or state level. They should! I am not sure who said they shouldn’t.

As Solicitor General, she’s actually spoken on numerous occasions before the court, which is more than Thomas has done, TO DATE!!

Even mentioning Jesus, Moses, OR Mohammed with regard to qualifications is a distinct violation of Article Six of the Constitution.

Buck, what Jesus (more accurately, Yeshua ben-Joseph) thought, though interesting, has no connection to our society. America is not a Christian country. If you want to live according to the teachings of Yeshua, then feel free, but please refrain from claiming that Yeshua was either a socialist or a capitalist.
