Wherewere all these concerned citizens when the Patriot Act was put in place by Bush and Cheney? Many of us were deemed unpatriotic or worse in league with terroists for our objections to it then. Alas we have a Black president now and darn if people don’t agree with us now.
Hayden and conservatives defending the Patriot Act this morning. They got it passed, and Bush signed it, which as Republicans say about anything Obama signs, it’s all HIS bill and FAULT!
CCTV, and other “observations” of our daily lives by government are almost as invasive as corporate invasions of our privacy, which so many readily throw out the window on “social media”, hmm, narcississm isn’t a very good defense of privacy.
You’re not going to get the conservatives here to admit they got it wrong back in 2001, much like you won’t get them to admit they got it wrong in 2003.The fact is that most of them have no real political ideology other than what they hear from the usual suspects. Intrusive, unconstitutional spying is ok when a Republican does it. Ill considered invasions & bungled occupations are ok when a Republican does it.There’s a reason I don’t comment here as much as I used to. Finding someone who can at least intelligently argue from the conservative side is almost as hard as finding one who argues honestly.
Jim Sensenbrenner offered the bill to Congress, but it was Written several years Earlier by the Project for the New American Century. That’s why it was able to be Passed so Quickly. They had it Ready and Waiting for any excuse to ram it through congress. The REAL Guilty parties, though, are the Congress crittters who later admitted that they voted YES without even Trying to READ it.
“Finding someone who can at least intelligently argue from the conservative side is almost as hard as finding one who argues honestly.”
The exception to that rule is frequently displayed in the magazine The American Conservative. I only look at it occasionally, but I’ve noted a distinct lack of the nausea-inducing rhetoric on other “conservative” outlets. Not exactly a high bar, but there it is.
