I usually only hear that when they phone me (if I can make out what they’re saying at all).
What they say: “This call may be monitored and/or recorded for quality assurance.”
What I hear: “This call may be monitored and/or recorded in order to protect us from harassment while we bother and harass you with unwanted phone calls designed to slip into the loopholes of the Do-Not-Call laws. Oh yeah, we know you signed up for do-not-call, but we don’t care.”
Or: “This call may be recorded so that we can play it back later and all get a good laugh at your expense.”
Or: “This call may be monitored and/or recorded because not only do we feel the need to bother you with unwanted phone calls, but we also feel the need to violate your right to privacy by recording you against your will.”
I certainly hope that you are right. I just get so discouraged when I come across opinions such as those expressed by one atheist on a forum I have visited (not here fortunately) who felt that the disabled should be kicked out into the street and left to die.
