I recall that in “Make Room, Make Room”, farms generally were among the last to be deprived (and didn’t take it well when they were). But it’s a pretty stupid complaint – in any shortage you funnel supplies to crucial uses that contribute to crucial results…I’d say ‘food’ qualifies.
Living in Lake Havasu City, had an 8 foot square of grass so my 2-year old would know what it felt like, and a saguaro in the yard, as well as cholla, beavertail, and a lot of rocks.
Another little note; Florida too has been in drought conditions through most of the past five years, folks just THINK it’s always wet there, it isn’t.
Water wasting is an American tradition, well, wasting land is right up there as well, but it’s especially been disastrous in the arid west. Depleted topsoil in the midwest is also a direct result of human activity, and also actually has climate impacts as well.
