It’s the character, folks. Don’t read more into it than there is.

The material is produced several weeks in advance of publication, so it would be ineffective to seek ideas from readers for an adventure now.

Besides, I don’t take ideas from outside my brain, as that only produces lame, formulaic material.

The only time I don’t need my meds are when Danae or Capt Eddy are featured. Otherwise Wiley can drive me stark raving wild.

Out pen and have at it. But a time warp (where’s that physics nerd when you need him) visit to the Okeefenokee Swamp and its denizens would be fun for this aging boomer. Look forward, Wiley, to your daily offering. (Not real thrilled, though, with the glue the Chinese used on your 2010 daily calendar pad.)

Apparently this needs further explanation. I come from the Charles Schulz school of cartooning. In the 50 years he produced Peanuts, Charles Schulz never bought a gag or hired other people to help produce the final art. It is an art that needs to be an expression of the artist, entirely from the artist’s perspective and creativity. Like Charles Schulz, I approach my work as an art that has to emanate entirely from me.

reminds me of myself as a kid. being a tomboy surrounded by sisters was very frustrating. I wanted to go have an “adventure” and all mom wanted to do was play with my barbie-dolls……..ugh

I grew up and played with airplanes instead

A truly open cartoonistic mind is not above accepting overall storyline suggestions from the public. It should also be noted that Charles Schulz’ Peanuts wasn’t that great of a comic strip, consisting mainly of about 20 or 30 different basic gag situations permeated by cloying cuteness and mock-philosophical “wisdom”, repeating over and over as if rotating on a Rolodex.

It’s the excellence of your work that does it, Wiley: people will read into it stuff of their own. It’s just my opinion, but that people can and will do that speaks to your authenticity to your characters, even if it is ‘just a comic’.

Mr. Miller; the art which emanates from your personal self expressive creativity have been and remain one of the very few perspectives that approaches Mr. Shultz’s art. You do him and your art honor………….Thank you:-)

No, say rather: unless an idea spring from the author’s fertile imagination and strike sparks from his (or her, as the case may be) muse, the resulting attempt at wit and creative comedy will be, as was noted, most likely “lame, formulaic material.”
