I wonder how “conservatives” in the U.S. feel about the rule that there must be at least two people in the cockpit at all times. (Deregulation! Deregulation!) Had that rule been in force in Europe, this might not have happened. Seems like a good rule to me, and what does it really cost the airlines? The cost/benefit ratio makes it a no-brainer. Kudos to the U.S. for this rule that I didn’t even know existed until a few days ago. Reinforcing the cockpit doors, then allowing one person to be alone in the cockpit, is a recipe for disaster.
My heart sinks every time I think about this tragedy.
