cabrobst: I was fascinated by the constant jibes our school’s Religious Instruction teachers (oh yes, a public/state school but with R.I. classes until the 9th year/grade) made against the Catholic church which was odd since about half our school was made up of Portuguese & Poles with a fair sprinkling of Catholic Brits and Irish. The RI teachers were generally Lutheran or Dutch Reformed. I didn’t care since I was an atheist but it made for amusing observations watching the Catholic kids get irate.
I remember an Afrikaans girlfriend I had. For about a week. I was surprised since she a little out of my league. Then I understood. Her father was a dominee in the N.G. church, her brother in a seminary. But I wasn’t introduced as the Portuguese boyfriend, which would have still made the father turn purple, instead I was introduced as “Dis omQ R, Papa, hy’s Portugees en ‘n ateïs.”
Catholic atheists, cannot get more demonic than that I suppose.

Mine, too. Had to look at that one again to see if my eyes were deceiving me.

You can be a Methodist, a Baptist, a Catholic, a whatever and nobody cares. There be a Sunni or a Shiite and they care very much!
