How many dead “civilians” in Afghanistan and Iraq as a result of OUR actions? Was it really worth killing over a quarter million people to get bin Laden and Saddam
The horror and the rage ARE out here. It’s just that it doesn’t increase ratings or sales enough, and the big news organizations relegate it to the back pages.
When the nigerian goverment does nothing to deal with them, or neighbours to nigeria – why should the west be the first to? Considering boko loco arent a threat to us atm.
By the way, I just got the news that I’ve got a new book contract. That’s five books in 19 years. Not bad for a looney lefty who never learned high school civics and lives on government handouts and never comes out of his mother’s basement.
Now about coraryan — I decided some time ago that she was someone I didn’t want to know because her whole attitude to life is so unlike mine. I don’t see the advantage in trying to engage with her.
More or less the same topic. I guess there are two related themes that run through everything I write. One has to do with certain aspects of literary interpretation. The other has to do with thinking — What is thinking when takes the form of literature rather than logic or mathematics or science? But I’m not a particularly theoretical or philosophic person, so I’m always looking at specific texts. I’m not very sympathetic to the dominant schools of “theory” — deconstruction and its relatives. I hold that there is such a thing as meaning, even the meaning of the original author, rather than in the endless shifting of ungrounded signifiers. My training is in linguistics and classical philology, not English or Comp Lit. Enough.
“How many of those 250,000 were Muslims killing other Muslims?”
You don’t kn ow because you didn’t bother to check beforehand. What’s a little collateral damage?Which is why you have some more hating you and plotting against you. Give ’em the emotional ammo.
I liked it so much I’ve bookmarked Amanda Taub. I might even start using my twitter account and follow her as my first sign up.That’s the power of O’Really.

Thanks so much. I’ll keep you posted off list. It’s a funny story. A lesson in the importance of tact.
